Admissions for Genetic Engineering in 2015

Genetic Engineering Course:

Building on all the courses discussed thus far, genetic engineering is a graduate-level course intended for students who have already achieved an undergraduate degree, usually in the field of biology. This class ties together various aspects of the student's previous courses of study, focusing on recombinant DNA technology, DNA manipulation, transgenic animals and the ethics of genetic engineering.

List of Common Courses in Genetic Engineering:

The overviews below cover some commonly offered courses for aspiring genetic engineers.
1.Genetics Course
2.Cell and Molecular Biology Course
3.Molecular Genetics Course
4.Advanced Recombinant DNA Course
5.General Biochemistry Course

What's wrong with genetic engineering (GE)?

Genetic engineering enables scientists to create plants, animals and micro-organisms by manipulating genes in a way that does not occur naturally. These genetically modified organisms (GMOs) can spread through nature and interbreed with natural organisms, thereby contaminating non 'GE' environments and future generations in an unforeseeable and uncontrollable way.

We believe:

GMOs should not be released into the environment since there is not an adequate scientific understanding of their impact on the environment and human health. When we force life forms and our world's food supply to conform to human economic models rather than their natural ones, we do so at our own peril.

Principles of Genetic Engineering:

Just as DNA is at the core of studies in genetics, recombinant DNA (rDNA)—that is, DNA that has been genetically altered through a process known as gene splicing —is the focal point of genetic engineering.
This technique has been used to analyze genetic structures in fetal cells and to diagnose certain blood disorders, such as sickle cell anemia.

Genetic Engineering Risks and Impacts:

Any technology that offers benefits will usually come with risks as well.In order to make wise decisions about using a technology, we must understand its potential impacts well enough to decide whether the risks are acceptably low.

The Advantages of Genetic Engineering:

1. With genetic engineering, most of the diseases and illnesses can easily be prevented through isolating the exact gene that causes them.
2. There are also infectious diseases that can be treated with the use of genetic engineering. This is done by implanting the genes that are associated with antigen and antiviral proteins.
3. The most desirable traits of certain organisms can be pin pointed and integrated into other organism’s DNA.

Ethical Issues of Genetic Engineering:

Transgenics and genetic engineering also present a variety of ethical considerations that span social, as well as extrinsic and intrinsic, concerns.

Conclusion of Genetic Engineering:

Genetic engineering and transgenics continue to present intriguing and difficult challenges for 21st century scientists and ethicists, and education and meaningful, respectful discourse are just the beginning of what is required to tackle such complex ethical issues.
